Types of Baby Strollers

There are many types of baby strollers available on the market: strollers for newborns, toddlers, twins, triplets, quadruplets and more! And there's a stroller for just about any activity a parent would like to do with their child.

It's overwhelming to look at the endless variety of models out there. That's why I want to help you narrow down the possibilities by giving you information to help you realize what you really need in a baby stroller.

So before we continue, have you answered the 7 important questions about baby strollers? If you haven't, do this first.
Remember, the "perfect" stroller doesn't exist. You need to find one that’s best for you and your lifestyle. Always keep that in mind!

There are basically 7 types of baby strollers:

Lightweight strollers are the smallest, lightest and most basic baby strollers available and include umbrella strollers, which get their name from the curved double handles and from the fact that they fold up easily and compactly like an umbrella.

Standard strollers are single mid-sized strollers. In their simplest form, they provide a seat for your child and somewhere for you to push, but can have many more features depending on the price.

Stroller travel systems are the ultimate in convenience for a parent with a newborn. Basically, it is a good-sized stroller with an infant car seat that clips in and out. If you are planning to buy only one stroller, this may be the one you need.

Universal car seat carriers are a metal frame with stroller wheels onto which you can clip most brands of infant car seats.

Multi-child strollers are built for transporting twins, triplets and even quadruplets and quintuplets. They are also good for two children who are close in age or even three children of similar ages (for example, a toddler and twin babies).

Active strollers are specially designed for health-minded parents who regularly enjoy physical activity with their children. They include jogging strollers and all-terrain strollers . There are also bike trailers/strollers, and child carriers for hiking and cross-country skiing.

Baby carriages or prams are essentially a solid backward-facing bassinet on a frame with four large wheels. They are the classic image of a baby carriage.
