Stroller Travel Systems

(Car Seat & Stroller Combination)

Stroller travel systems are the ultimate in convenience for a parent with a newborn. Basically, they are the combination of a good-sized stroller with an infant car seat that clips in and out, which permits your baby to stay undisturbed in their car seat while being transferred between your vehicle and stroller.

If you are planning to buy only one stroller, this may be the one you need, however be aware that the weight (around 30 lbs. - over 20lbs. is considered too heavy by some experts) and lower quality of many of these strollers may lead you to buy something else after your baby has outgrown his infant car seat.

AdvantagesDisadvantages
convenient (includes car seat base for vehicle, car seat and stroller) heavy and bulky
good from birth until toddlerhood more expensive than standard models
are usually good quality from brand names not suitable for rough terrain
often have many features (ex: canopy, child and parent trays) not suitable for running or jogging
plastic swivel wheels for easy steering need a large trunk or an SUV or minivan
good for shopping malls, paved sidewalks or paths must be careful to clip car seat properly onto stroller to avoid accidents
good storage space usually can't use car seats bought separately
car seat and stroller have coordinating fabrics need to make sure the car seat and stroller have the features of ones you’d buy on their own
one or two-hand folding mechanism many are of low quality
double models available for twins

Alternatively, you might want to consider purchasing a universal car seat carrier in order to allow yourself more time to research the best stroller to fit your lifestyle, or purchase a stroller that has a a car seat attachment bar.
