Runabout Strollers
Do You Have a Large Family?
Runabout strollers are a unique line of multi-child strollers that parents of multiple children and daycare providers rave about. They are hand-made one at a time in Oregon and are available for two, three, four or even five children from newborn to the age of 5 years (55 pounds).
What's So Special About Runabout Strollers?
Runabout Strollers are extremely durable and safe, with features such as:
- in-line design (all Runabouts are only 24" wide so you can easily maneuver on sidewalks, jogging trails, through doorways, or in the mall)
- hand-welded steel frames with a 5 year guarantee
- expandable (Sport Double can be a one or two seater)
- adjustable, easily removable seats that recline for infants and toddlers from 10 pounds to 55 pounds.
- 5-point shoulder harness and lap belt
- safety wrist cord that attaches to frame
- telescoping aluminum handle to fit you
- hand brake and parking brake
- quick-release wheels
- flat-free (airless) tires are available
Optional accessories include a sun canopy with side panels, a plastic weather shield, a quick release basket, beverage bottles and airless tires.
The double and triple models fit in many sport utility vehicles and most minivans, but a receiver hitch carrier for cars is available for purchase as well.
Best of all, Runabout Strollers ARE EASY TO PUSH! You can walk and jog with multiple children on board!
What Do Parents Say?
The reviews I’ve read about these strollers have been overwhelmingly positive. I even e-mailed a mother who was willing to give her opinion of her triple model and she said she "would buy this stroller again in a heartbeat" and that she uses it almost every day. A father of quadruplets giving a review on Epinions.com said the independence offered by this stroller to parents of quadruplets was "priceless".

What Do I Think About Runabout Strollers?
Yes, I myself am now (since mid-January 2006), the proud owner of a Runabout Triple Stroller - and I love it!
When I do my summaries of parent reviews of strollers (see the
Best Double Strollers and Twin Strollers
and the Runabout Stroller parent reviews listed above), I remain objective and just report the information that I find through my research in books and on the internet. There's no way I can personally review all the strollers I write about.
But here I just had to include my own personal review since I actually have tried this stroller out myself and think parents of twins, triplets, quadruplets and also large families with children of different ages would benefit from this knowledge.
Frustrated and Flabby
I first found out about Runabout Strollers in the Fall of 2005 while doing research on multi-child strollers for this website. Before that, I didn't know there was a way for me to take my twin boys and their older sister out for walks and jogs all by myself. I wanted so much to keep exercising in the fresh air as I had before my boys were born, and was frustrated that we were always stuck indoors and that I wasn't finding the time nor the energy to exercise when alone.
Now, in less than 5 minutes, I just strap all three of them into the stroller and away we go! I was afraid that my daughter, who is 3 years old, would not want to go in the stroller, but she loves it, especially when I go fast!
The Cons
The cons listed in the parents reviews are all valid, but I find they don't outweigh the pros. The fact that my twins are not newborns also makes me put less importance on the lack of leg room when the seats are reclined and the purposeful lack of padding on the molded seats (it's to accommodate larger children). My 3 year-old, 38 pound daughter has not complained one bit about her comfort level. There is a double head support inner cushion available as an accessory for newborns, however. And as I don't plan on using this stroller as a shopping stroller unless I walk to the mall for a quick errand, transporting it in my minivan is not an issue. So overall, I'm very pleased with my choice!
What Are Your Sanity and Health Worth?
Yes, Runabouts are more expensive than regular strollers (prices range from $450 to $1115 without any accessories), but regular strollers can't hold more than two children up to 55 pounds each! Daycares love them because they permit them to take children of different ages out for walks with ease. And their resale value is very high. Parents report selling their Runabouts for over half of what they paid, even after several years (they're built to last 20 years), so you really can't lose.
