Child Bike Trailers/Strollers

Do you like taking your bicycle out for a spin? Then bike trailers, or child bike carriers, are a wonderful way to include your child in this activity. And it’s even better when the trailer or carrier can double as a stroller! You can bicycle somewhere, park and walk somewhere else, while your child stays safe and comfortable.

Some models (like my double model) have lots of storage space in the back to hold supplies for long outings. One summer, when my daughter was a year old and we were vacationing by the ocean, we used to pack up a picnic lunch, towels and sand toys and cycle or walk to the beach. I still use it now around my neighborhood for outings to the park or walks with my twin boys.

Advantages	Disadvantages
safe and comfortable for older babies, toddlers and preschoolers	not recommended for young babies (see below*)
child has view outside through plastic windows	stroller may not be suitable for running or going over rough terrain (depends on type of front wheels)
can cover more distance and use more speed than with just a stroller	double models too wide to fit through regular doorways and narrow store aisles
usually have good storage space
single and double models available

*Child bike trailers are not recommended for children under 1 year of age.
